  • The RF Communications Designer position supporting the Battlespace Applications Branch of the Tactical Effects, Protection & Interactive Technologies division provides a unique opportunity to support development of leading-edge technologies addressing key issues affecting national security.   • Day-to-day activities of the RF Communications Designer include system requirements development and documentation, circuit design, integration and test. The RF Communications Designer will participate in all phases of system development from conceptual design through field demonstrations and test events. The RF Communications Designer will participate in design review meetings, interact with Integrated Product Teams, hardware and software developers, integrators, test range personnel and the intended user community. Occasionally, you will travel with the development team to military test ranges to conduct site visits or testing and evaluation activities for commercial and/or military systems.

Tasks

  • An Engineer with expertise in Electronics Design for Radio Frequency (RF) communications is required to support the development of a communication data link between projectiles with transceiver/receivers and platform radar systems.
  • Provide program support to the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command – Armaments Center (CCDC-AC) Battlespace Applications Branch Precision Radars Team at Picatinny, NJ.
  • Conceive, design, develop, evaluate and test compact communication systems and components for automated sensor-enabled weapon systems. Tasks involve design of low Size, Weight and Power (SWAP) transceiver modules that fit into the form factor of various small, medium, large caliber munitions capable of surviving gun launched shock and temperature environments.
  • Prototype designs will be developed, fabricated and tested throughout system development phases; from early conceptual design to refined pre-production designs.
  • Assist project and system engineering team leads in translating customer or project end-state requirements and to derive technical system requirements and propose engineering solutions
  • Support System and Project Leads in the development of interface control documentation of the transceiver communications electronics and radar systems
  • Interface with Battlespace Applications Branch Chief and technical leads; Integrated Product Team Leads (IPT) and customers within CCDC-AC to inform RF Communication system design
  • Support and participate in the demonstration and test events at DoD test ranges across the US

Requirements

  • B.S. in relevant technical discipline and 5 years of relevant experience in circuit design, integration, and test
  • Desire to contribute to research and development of programs focused on future weapon systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • US citizenship
  • Ability to secure a security clearance
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work in a team environment Travel: up to 50% travel depending on the project

Job Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Antenna design expertise is not required, but background knowledge is a big plus as the transceiver electronics modules must integrate and interface with antenna and projectile guidance, navigation and control electronics
  • Department of Defense Secret clearance
